I work a 9 to 5 each day.
One thing that utterly stands out and it universally accepted as the best thing about our company is the people. Hands down. I’ve spoken with designers, managers, developers, and various people that came from different companies and it holds true for all of them.
PEOPLE MAKE THE COMPANY.
I know this is quite obvious to most people but many just don’t simply understand the importance of what means. They might think, processes, efficiency, marketing, leadership, etc.
In the end, it comes down to the people, good, bad, tall or small, the components of a company are made up of brains, body, mind, and soul which should always be the heart of a company.
Good companies will understand this and value its people the way they should.
But there are those of course, who just want to be there to look good for themselves. Who want to stand out in their “awesomeness” because they think that they have some kind of superpower to give to the world that precedes everyone else’s agenda.
I’m talking to folks out there who put process and proficiency over people. We’ve all done this.
- You’ve been wondering why someone is taking so long damn long on their task so you throw a fit and thus hindering a good relationship with that other person.
- You’ve spoken behind people’s back because you were upset one day over something very small they did yet it was so unimportant to the grand scheme of life.
- You wonder why people don’t know certain things cause of your high expectations but reality is is that they’ve forgotten because they’ve been so busy with other things in their lives.
There are just so many misunderstandings and misconceptions of reality going on that somehow, someway, you made yourself to be the superhero of the story and became “better” than everyone else along the way.
But take a step back and question:
What really makes you better than the next person?
ARE YOU REALLY THAT SPECIAL IN THIS LIFE?
YOU JUST HAPPENED TO BE BORN AND BE WHERE YOU ARE YET YOU MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND YOU?
I could go on of course. My point is, is that as human beings living on this world together and trying to figure out ourselves and who we are, does a single task or mistake define the life of a person’s entire being?
You aren’t special, neither are you superhuman. You may have better character in certain areas, but completely lacking in others. You may be more efficient, more blah blah blah, but you’ll never be amazing at everything.
You’re human, embrace who you are and embrace others as well. Accept them as humans, as people, and stop thinking you’re better because…well…you’re not.
You’re not better than anyone. Whoever told you that is not in their right mind. Even if it’s your mother.
